Imphal, March 24 2025:
Ex-MLA AK Mirabai has sought immediate attention of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Secretary PK Singh to the incomplete work of NH-37 from Patsoi to Sagolband Tera.
Speaking to media persons at her Patsoi residence today, Mirabai pointed out it has been quite a long time that the particular highway section is left incomplete.
Work on the Sagolband Tera-Patsoi section was abandoned incomplete and resumed for some days when there was public pressure, only to be abandoned again, she said.
This has created a lot of inconveniences to the public, she added.
Although it has been four days since the anguished local people have been blocking the highway section, NHIDCL which is responsible for constructing/maintaining the highway has not said anything.
This is highly condemnable, Mirabai said.
Even though there is an elected representative of Patsoi AC, the MLA has been acting totally indifferent.
The situation is tantamount to Patsoi AC having no elected representative, she decried.
With a large number of vehicles including heavy trucks moving on the highway, local residents and shopkeepers have been facing serious health hazards due to thick volumes of dust churned out by every passing vehicle, the ex-MLA said.
It was the indifferent attitude of the Government and NHIDCL which compelled the people to protest against the deplorable condition of the highway section.
She then urged the Governor and the Chief Secretary to see that construction of the particular highway section is completed at the earliest.
The ex-MLA said that she would join the public protest if the authorities concerned fail to take up necessary action at the earliest.
NH-37 is a lifeline of the whole State and it does not serve any limited number of people, she pointed out.
She further urged the authorities to complete the construction work of the whole length of the highway as soon as possible.
