Imphal, April 20 2025:
The use of Kuki militants as "proxies" by the Government of India indicates that there may be a hidden agreement to give the demands of the Kukis, asserted Khuraijam Athouba, convenor, Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) .
This was said during a public meeting on the nearly 2-year-old crisis held at Lamphel Sanakeithel, Imphal West today.
At the meeting, Athouba said the violent conflict was started with the objective of creating a land for themselves in Churachandpur, Moreh and Kangpokpi by driving out the Meiteis.
In their war to achieve this demand, the Government of India is giving them muscles.
The Government is using the Kuki armed militants as proxies to counter insurgents, he said.
Judging by its actions, it is suspicious if there is a hidden agreement to give away Kukis' demand for a Separate Administration or a Union Territory, Athouba said.
Athouba asserted that the youths of the State were forced to pick up arms because of the failure of the Central security forces to stop the Kuki aggression.
Meitei allowed them to settle here as refugees.
The community had no intention to drive them out of Manipur.
Even now, the Meiteis have no desire to take an aggressive stand against or attack them, he said.
Even after nearly 2 years, the Government of India is unable to resolve the conflict, all because of its insincere approach, Athouba added.
LSKDA president Moirangthem Jilla, Lamphel Sanakeithel Nupi Kanglup president Ningthoujam (o) Nandita and Samjetsabam Mangoljao attended the public meeting as speakers.
Similar public meetings were also held at Lilong Chajing Awang Leikai Community Hall, Sawombung Community Hall, Tendongyang Community Hall, Loitang Khunou, Khamran Community Hall and Chingarel Tejpur.
