79th Independence Day celebrated at Chandel, Moreh with patriotic fervour

The District Administration Chandel organised the 79th Independence Day celebration on Friday at the Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School, District Headquarters, with great zeal and patriotic spirit.
Deputy Commissioner Chandel, L Nandakumar unfurled the Tricolour and took the salute from the marching contingents led by parade commander, Dr Ts Chamna Anal, Additional SP (Ops) Chandel.
In his address, Deputy Commissioner L Nandakumar emphasized that unity is essential for peace and development in the State.
Highlighting Chandel as the only Aspirational District in the State, he recalled that the district was first created in the year 1974 as Tengnoupal district and later renamed Chandel in 1983, before being split as Tengnoupal and Chandel districts.
The DC underlined Chandel's strategic importance due to its 103 km international border with Myanmar, noting that it is making progress in health care, education, and connectivity.
He also announced plans to add 30 new mobile towers in the district and the proposal to construct a new hockey stadium.
The event was also attended by SP Chandel, Dharmendra Kumar; Commandant of 8th MR, N Madhunimai; ADC Chandel Md Firoz Khan; 21 Assam Rifles Commandant, Col Amit Mane; along with other senior officials from Police, and various departments.
Awards were also distributed to employees of various departments, village chiefs, and meritorious students in recognition of their performance.
Meanwhile the 5 Assam Rifles, Integrated Check Post, Moreh, in collaboration with the Land Ports Authority of India, Ministry of Home Affairs celebrated the 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025 at Moreh.
The event was graced by Brig Robeen Chatterjee, DIG, 26 Sector, Assam Rifles, as the chief guest.
The celebration aimed to reinforce the spirit of unity, especially among the youth and take a step towards rebuilding trust, fostering communal harmony, and promoting unity in diversity.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from ICP Moreh stakeholders, local civil society organisations, trade unions of Moreh, and school children.
Highlights included a march past by five school contingents and a cultural performance by Tamil Sangam, Moreh.
Additionally, the Jehovah Jireh Children's Home Band and the Jazz Band of the 5 Assam Rifles added a vibrant touch with their renditions of patriotic songs.
