Imphal, April 17 2026:
The Tronglaobi JAC and the State Government held another round of talks today but no agreement could be reached on calling off the mass protest or claiming the bodies of the victims.
Together with family members of the victims of Tronglaobi killings, the JAC held a meeting with Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam at the Chief Minister's Secretariat at 2.30 pm.
The talks went on till 5.30 pm but the two sides could not reach any agreement.
As the meeting dragged on without any agreement, the two sides agreed to wait for the return of Chief Minister Y Khemchand from Ukhrul.
The meeting resumed after the arrival of the Chief Minister and it went on till 7.30 pm.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, JAC co-convenor Sinam Ajitkumar said that a tentative agreement has been reached between the Government and the JAC on most demands of the JAC.
But no final deal has been inked as the family of the victims requested for a couple of days' time, Ajitkumar said.
Saying that a final agreement may be sealed in the next couple of days, he said that the JAC will hold another round of meeting with the Government soon after taking into account the wishes of the victim family.
On being asked whether the dead bodies will be claimed, the JAC co-convenor said that the matter was still undecided.
To another query whether JAC's demands are different from those of COCOMI, AMUCO and other CSOs, Ajitkumar maintained that all the demands and movements of the CSOs and the JAC are in the interest of the people.
