Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh (PK Singh) has announced that the Government is working to acquire drones and other advanced equipment for the Manipur Fire Service Department to enhance firefighting capabilities.
The Chief Secretary also said that work has begun to upgrade roads in Imphal, including local lanes and to cement concrete roads to improve the city's infrastructure.
Saying that the roads will be blacktopped before adding a layer of cement concrete, he estimated that the work will take around two years years to complete.
He made the announcement after flagging off newly procured firefighting vehicles, including 10 motorbikes with mist fire-fighting equipment and four water bowser trucks from the headquarters of Manipur Fire Service, here, today.
The Chief Secretary also inaugurated a.training cum conference hall and office of the Fire Prevention Wing of the department.
Speaking to the media, PK Singh said that the new vehicles will enhance the Manipur Fire Service Department's firefighting capabilities.
Saying that the motorbikes were procured to enable firefighting teams to access narrow lanes, he added that the Government is also working to procure drones for the Manipur Fire Service too.
He said that newly procured firefighting vehicles will be utilised in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Moreh, Chandel, Jiribam, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Imphal.
Director of Manipur Fire Service L Nabachandra said the 10 motorbikes are equipped with 40-litre water capacity and other firefighting equipment.
Each water bowser truck, on the other hand, has a 6,000-litre water capacity and is equipped with smoke exhausters and high tech rescue tools, he said.
He added that the vehicles were procured under the funding of the 15th Finance Commission.
Maintaining that installation of 14 mini water tenders and a platform for responding to fires in tall buildings has begun, he added they will also possess three quick response vehicles equipped with scientific technology very soon.
Nabachandra further said that more fire sub stations will be established in the State.
Sawombung and Lamlai fire sub-stations have become operational, and efforts are underway to establish fire sub-stations at Khumbong, Litan, Porompat, Tadubi, Noney, Lilong, and Wagjing, he said.
