Kuldiep admits hands of Kuki militants

Imphal, January 09 2024: While investigation is on, so far, there is no evidence showing involvement of militants from Myanmar in attacks carried out on security forces at Moreh, said Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh today.

He said this to media persons at Langthabal today .

The Security Advisor was attending the 190th death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh.

Responding to questions raised by media persons, Kuldiep Singh said reports have been received that the attacks on security forces at Moreh were carried out by Kuki village volunteers and Kuki militants.

They carried out the attacks to drive away State police commandos.

However, there has been no confirmation about involvement of Myanmar based militants in the attacks on the security forces.

No militants have been arrested, he said.

Notably, the attacks on the security forces at Moreh since December 30 saw the use of highly sophisticated weapons and warheads like rocket propelled grenades.

A rocket propelled grenade reportedly burst a wall and exploded inside a room in one of the attacks injuring a Special Commando personnel.

At least 13 security personnel including 10 Special Commandos and 3 BSF men have been hurt in several attacks carried out by armed militants between December 30, 2023 and January 2, 2024 at Moreh.

The use of the rocket propelled grenades had sparked suspicion about possible involvement of militants from Myanmar in the attacks.

When asked about the use of sophisticated warheads like the rocket propelled grenades in the attacks on the security forces, Kuldiep Singh stated that intelligence reports suggest that the attacks were carried out by Kuki militants based in Chura-chandpur, Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.

The reports, however, have not been verified.

It will be known after confirmation, he said.

Responding to another query, the Security Advisor said there has been no evidence showing that the rocket propelled grenades used in the attacks were brought in from Myanmar.

"The attacks are being investigated to ascertain involvement of Myanmar based militants.

Whether they are militants from Myanmar or Manipur, all involved in the attacks on security forces will be arrested," Kuldiep said, adding a meeting was held with the Chief Secretary on the issue yesterday.

The Security Advisor said the Assam Rifles, BSF and State police commandos in Moreh are conducting combing operations to arrest the militants.

Area domination operations have been launched by the security forces in Moreh.

A high ground previously occupied by armed militants has been dominated by security forces yesterday, he said.
