Imphal, July 04 2025:
The Federation of Haomee (FoH) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the crisis besetting Manipur since May 3, 2023.The Federation, in a letter jointly signed by its president Sapamcha Jadumani and vice president Dr K Heera Kabui, raised concerns about the issues caused by illegal immigrants and the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement signed between the Government and over two dozen Kuki militant groups.
According to the Federation, the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants has resulted in the establishment of unauthorized villages and abnormal population growth in Manipur.
Furthermore, the Federation claimed that many illegal immigrants have obtained fake Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and other Government documents, exacerbating the population issue.
Describing the signing of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact with Kuki militant groups, allegedly based in foreign territory, on August 22, 2008 as unfortunate, the Federation argued that these SoO groups have no history of waging war against the Government of India and questioned why a pact is necessary with them.
FoH went on to claim that Kuki militant groups under SoO pact have been engaging in all sorts of criminal activities such as extortion on National Highways, kidnapping, demanding ransoms, looting from the people, poppy plantation and running drug business.
The Federation urged the Government to refrain from extending the SoO agreement which technically expired on February 29, 2024.On displacement of people, FoH said that all Meitei houses in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Moreh and other Kuki dominated areas have either been burnt down or flattened.
Pointing out that thousands of displaced Meiteis remain stuck in cramped relief camps, the Federation said that the trauma has been so overwhelming for some IDPs that they have taken their own lives.
Every IDP yearns to return to their native places, it said accusing the Government of ignoring their plight.
Saying that resettling all the displaced people will be a lengthy process, the Federation urged the Government to offer a Government job and quarters to at least one member from each displaced family to alleviate their struggles.
