Imphal, August 02 2009: Not all the apples are rotten, it seems, in the State Police Department.

A number of policemen, who were on duty at the bazar areas of Imphal today, said that if Sanjit was killed in custody is true, then it was an inhuman act.

When this reporter went around the bazar area, to elicit the response of the Tombas and Chaobas today evening, a number of police men on duty there, on condition of anonymity, said that so far the Government has been able to come up with cooked up encounter stories.

This time, let there be justice, they said and added that in the past, the Government managed to escape, because there were no eye witnesses.

Now that the sequence has been captured on camera, the truth has come out, they added.

"As human beings, we are shattered by the killing," they said.

The face is still writhed in pain, but there was firmness in her voice, when Longjam Uttam's mother said, "My son was killed on trumped up charges by police commandos in civvies in front of my eyes on March 29, 2008.We still have not received justice, but now the Govt cannot keep the truth under wrap." Mobi, elder brother of Satish, who was also killed under contradictory claims by police commandos on May 18, this year, said "Now the truth should prevail".

A college teacher, while interacting with The Sangai Express said that the Government seems to be patronising cold blooded murderers and added that the JACs formed earlier to demand justice, should wake up again.

"Let the flood gates open," he asserted.

A number of senior citizens said that they are shattered by such killings and added that people should not remain silent any longer.

Meanwhile a number of political parties have rejected the Magisterial inquiry.

"I have seen the pictures published frame by frame and they negate the police version.

This being the case, we demand the Government to hold a Judiciary inquiry, headed by a Supreme Court or High Court to find the truth and punish the guilty," said State NCP president Radhabinod Koijam.

The State BJP has also demanded a Judicial probe into the incident.

National executive member of the party, M Bhorot said that the State unit president of the BJP, H Borbabu will proceed to Guwahati along with the published pictures and highlight the matter to the party's North East in charge.

The MPP has also rejected the Magisterial enquiry order, dubbing it an attempt to hoodwink the people.

MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that Magisterial Enquiry can never establish the facts of the incident.

Following the detail report published by state dailies after the same report was webcasted by Tehelka along with a dozen of photos clearly showing that Sanjit was killed in a fake encounter, a meeting of MPP legislators, office bearers and advisors was held at the party office this afternoon.

The meeting was attended by MPP Legislature wing leader O Joy and former Union Minister Th Chaoba among other leaders.

Later speaking to media persons after the meeting, Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that the MPP rejects the Government's notification for a Magisterial Enquiry into the firing incident of July 23 .

Claiming that the MPP has been investigating into the incident from the very beginning, Dr Luwang pointed out that there was stark contradictions between the people's version and the statement given by Chief Minister O Ibobi in the State Assembly regarding the firing incident.

Highlighting these contradictory versions, MPP proposed constitution of a fact finding committee to probe into the incident but the Government rejected the proposal.

Then the MPP MLAs demanded either Judicial Enquiry or CBI investigation.

Again the Government refused to give any response, Dr Luwang asserted.

The meeting resolved that a Judicial Enquiry or CBI investigation should be ordered and criminal cases should be initiated against the police personnel shown in the photographs of the Tehelka report.

Observing that the 48 hours bandh called by the Apunba Lup is justified, the meeting also agreed to uphold general strike, conveyed Dr Luwang.

O Joy demanded immediate suspension of the security personnel involved in the killing and pictured in the Tehelka photographs.

He said that the party leaders would call on the Governor and ask for a high level enquiry.

In case the Governor fails to direct the State Government to either hand over the case to CBI or order a Judicial Enquiry within a specific period, MPP would not remain silent rather the party would launch various democratic forms of agitation, Joy said.

Former Union Minister and MPP advisor Th Chaoba remarked that the Government's decision to conduct Magisterial Enquiry into the firing incident would not suffice.

Observing that the killing would have been a cold blooded one, Chaoba asked whether security forces can kill people in front of the public in Imphal town from where disturbed area status has been removed.
