Award keeps memories of RK Sanatomba alive

RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award 2025 was given away today at Kombirei House, Hijagang Leirak, Konung Lampak where Kangla Lanpung (Vol XVI, Issue I) was also released.
RK Sanatomba's mother RK Mangi Shija, A Brajakumar Sharma and Leihaothabam Saratchandra graced the function as presidium members.
RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award 2025 was presented to Poknapham daily's assistant feature editor Bonny Thongamcha (B-Tek) in recognition of the articles he wrote on art and culture in 2024.The award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation and a shawl.
As a part of the function, Kangla Lanpung, Volume XVI, Issue I was released.
The issue contains articles written by MU research scholar (Political Science) Amom Malemnganba, MU research scholar (Sociology) Maisnam Susmina, IIIT research scholar Potsangbam Linthoingambi Chanu, research scholar (Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi) Rosalin Laishram, Agricultural Sciences post doctoral fellow (Sweden University) Loirin-da Loitongbam and ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Division of Biochemistry Principal Scientist Dr Anil Dahuja.
RK Sanatomba Memorial Trust chairman Dr RK Nimai said that Sanatomba, then Editor of Kangla Lanpung was killed in an unfortunate incident that took place on June 30, 1993 .
Together with his friends, RK Sanatomba's family set up a trust and the trust has been presenting awards to people working in the field of journalism since 2004, Dr Nimai said.
The winner of this year's award was selected by a jury out of five nominations which included two from visual media and three from print media, he said.
RK Sanatomba, aka Konung Sanatomba was the youngest of nine siblings bom to MK Khedasana and Mangi Shija.
Born in 1963, RK Sanatomba was quite interested in games and sports since childhood and he served as the general secretary of Manipur National Federation.
He also served as the Editor of Kangla Lanpung, published by the federation, Dr Nimai added.
