9 yr old boy drowns, body fished out

Thoubal, April 01 2024:
The body of a 9-year-old boy who drowned in Thoubal River has been recovered today after hours of search from yesterday.
The boy, identified as Laishram Wangthoi Meitei, was the son of L Kington of Thoubal Kiyam Siphai Heibong Leikai.
He drowned in the river near his locality at around 3 pm yesterday.
Locals and personnel of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were engaged in the search for the body.
While the search till late in the evening yesterday didn't yield any result, the body was recovered today morning at around 11.10 am.
Wangthoi, along with three of his friends had gone to the river to wash off dirt after playing football.
He was reaching for his sandals/slippers when he fell into the river and drowned.
Overcome with fear, the friends didn't raise any alarm which could have alerted the locals.
When the child didn't return home till late in the evening, the three friends revealed he had drowned in the river, said locals.
Incidentally, another 10 year old boy was killed by a lightning strike at Agri Quarters, Mechanised Farm at Lamphelpat on Sunday morning.
