Trainings / production of Sarit-Sarak, Meetei Pung-Cholom conclude

The month-long training cum production of "Sarit-Sarak" organised by Eastern Kala Vidya Thang-Ta Association (EKVTTA) concluded on Sunday at Thnga-Ta Shanglen Nongmeibung.
The training cum production was conducted under the Cultural Function and Production Grant 2022-2023 of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The closing function was attended by EKVTTA president, Khoisnam Dhaballo Khaba; Thang-Ta Loishang, Sana Konung advisor, Thingbaijam Ibohanbi Meetei; Directorate of Craft and Training, Superintendent (Technical Line), Yaikhom Achouba Singh; EKVTTA advisor, Wangkheirakpam Jin Meetei; KIMACS president, Ningthoujam Ajit Mangang and cultural activist Tondang Luwang as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Thingbaijam Ibohanbi Meetei stressed on the need to educate the traditional martial arts of Manipur like Thang-Ta and Sarit-Sarak to the younger generations.
He also asserted that Thang-Ta and Sarit-Sarak have been used by Meeteis for thousands of years to defend their Kingdom against many foreign invaders.
Altogether, 25 boys and girls participated in the month-long programme.
The function concluded with a demonstration of Thang-Ta, Sarit-Sarak.
Meanwhile, the valedictory function of the 15 days training on "Meetei Pung-Cholom" was held at Kongba Kshetri Leikai yesterday.
The training programme was organised by Kangla Foundation, Wangkhei Khunou under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
It was attended by Guru Tongbram Nimai Singh (Pung), cultural activist Khaidem Inaocha Singh and Kangla Foundation president Abujam Ojitkumar Singh as presidium members.
Presentation of 'Lengyan Phee' to Guru Tongbram Nimai Singh and certificates to the 25 artists who participated in the training programme were the main highlights of the event.
