DC visits relief camps, assures support to IDPs

Bishnupur deputy commissioner Pooja Elangbam on Thursday visited the relief camps set up at Kwakta Sericulture Training Institute Prefabricated House and Chingu Thangjing Guest House to assess living condition of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) .
The DC also interacted with the IDPs, listened to their grievances and assured the residents of continued support of the district administration.
She encouraged them to propose specific livelihood activities they wish to pursue so that timely arrangements can be made.
Expressing that life cannot be defined by one incident, Pooja urged all to maintain a positive outlook, especially for the sake of the upcoming generation.

The DC also stressed the importance of availing government schemes like Mission Vatsalya and providing accurate information during registration on the IDP Management portal to avoid future complications.
She stated that failure to enrol by July end in the IDP portal would result in the portal freezing, which could block access to various benefits.
During the visit, the camp residents proposed livelihood and income generation initiatives, highlighted shortage of water Supply, sanitation challenges, and challenges faced in accessing government welfare schemes.
The DC also distributed books, provided by Pratham Foundation to support education of the violence-affected children, and dietary supplements for the camp residents.
Speaking to media persons, the DC emphasised that objective of the visit is to hear grievances and address challenges faced by the displaced families, especially regarding livelihoods and income generation.
She also informed that in collaboration with NGOs market platforms to sell products produced by the IDPs are being explored along with initiatives for listing the said products on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) to reach out to national customer base.
The DC further reflected on successful efforts in other camps where sewing machines and looms have been distributed, enabling the residents to begin small-scale production.
Bishnupur ADM Toijam Opendra and officials of the district administration accompanied the DC during the visit.
