Free dental health camp conducted

In continuation of the observance of World Oral Health Day, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Scienees (JNIMS) Dental College Department of Paediatric & Preventive Dentistry in collaboration with Ideal Youth Association (IYA), Kakching Wairi Ward No 1 conducted a one day free dental health camp at Wairi Kongoi community hall on Wednesday.
The camp which also included Pit and Fissure Sealants Application Drive procedure was attended by five doctors, nurses and staffers of JNIMS Dental College Department, who checked dental problems of more than 150 people including 30 internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The attendees also received toothbrush, mouthwash and medicines during the camp.
Speaking on the occasion, Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry assistant professor Dr Naorem Nina Devi informed that the camp not only facilitated treatment, for dental issues but also raised awareness on dental hygiene.
People tend to take dental problems seriously only at the late stage and the pain become unbearable, said Dr Nina, adding that seeking treatment after aggravation of the ailment entails additional expenditure, lengthy procedures and is risky.
Hence, it is best to take preventive measures against dental illnesses, she stressed.
On the other hand, assistant professor Dr Sharna Ningthoujam explained that Pit and Fissure Sealant Application Drive procedure involves applying protective seal-ant to the posterior molars to prevent tooth decay in future.
