'Amamba Numit' observed at Sugnu

In remembrance of the attacks by armed Kuki militants on May 27 and 28, 2023, targeting Serou, Sugnu, and Wapokpi in Kakching district and Napat in Bishnupur district, resulting in the destruction of homes and properties, Sugnu, Phambei observed the day as 'Amamba Numit' (Dark Day) on Wednesday at Sugnu.
Floral tributes were offered to the eight martyrs who lost their lives in the 'Sugnu battle', as well as to all those who laid down their live in the ongoing crisis.
The second edition of the observance was held at Ching Tam community hall, Sugnu Awang Leikai, during which local MLA K Ranjit and attendees from various parts of the state paid floral tributes to the eight martyrs of the 'Sugnu Battle'.
Those honoured included Khoirom Rorna-rio Meitei of Sugnu Mayai Leikai, Yumlembam Shiva Meitei of Sugnu Mamang Makha Leikai, Ngangom Navy Meitei of Sugnu Mandop Leikai, Mayengbam Keronjit Meitei 'of Pangantabi, Ningthoujam Gandhi Meitei of Kakching Khunou Thongam Khunou, Ningthoujam Momocha Meitei of Sekmaijin Bazar, Heigrujam Robinsana Singh of Khongjom Bazar, and Thokchom Kiran Meitei of Wangjing Heituppokpi.
Tributes were also paid to others who lost their lives during the crisis.
As part of the observance, gifts were presented to the families of those who were killed and to individuals who suffered injuries during the conflict.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA K Ranjit noted that while many internally displaced people from various parts of the state are still unable to return to their homes, the majority of those displaced from the Sugnu-Serou area have been rehabilitated, due to the collective efforts of the people, meira paibi activists of Serou, Sugnu Kendra Development Committee and the local community.
As a tribute to those who laid down their lives for the motherland in the 'Sugnu Battle', candlelight vigils were held in every household across the Sugnu area as a mark of respect.
Meanwhile, MLA K Ranjit also extended financial assistance to 20 students, helping them gain admission to Class XI and XII at Sugnu Higher Secondary School.
