Imphal, April 21 2025:
RPI-Athawale national secretary and state unit president Maheshwar Thounaojam said on Monday that Manipur's two year old crisis persists largely because political parties remain divided and civil society organisations (CSOs) have failed to unite around public sentiment.
Attending a public meeting organised by Moirang Kampu Social Economy, Maheshwar said that the crisis is completing two years; but no solution is in sight.
Differences among political parties and the inability of CSOs to unite are the key reasons behind this stalemate.
He urged all stakeholders to set aside personal views so as to forge a common approach for the entire state.
Central leaders know of these divisions and are exploiting them to keep the crisis ongoing, he added.
Maheshwar likened restrictions imposed by Kukis on Meeteis visiting religious sites such as Thangjing and Koubru to being barred from one's own home.
He criticised political parties that make concessions to Kuki groups, warning that they risk losing their support base if they continue to prioritise vote banks over truth.
He also condemned dialogue with Kuki terrorist organisations while fundamental rights are violated.
There is no logic to sit together with Kuki terrorists at the negotiating table.
Everybody knows that they are hands in glove with Kuki CSOs and leaders.
A military crackdown is the need of the hour.
People should not support leaders who put personal gain above the state's unity, integrity and identity, he added.
