RIMS observes World Autism Awareness Day

Imphal, April 02 2025: Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, observed World Autism Awareness Day for the first time on Wednesday at the General OPD Complex with the objective of raising awareness and fostering inclusivity for individuals with autism.

Speaking on the occasion, RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, underscored the necessity of establishing a dedicated autism care centre and called for collaborative efforts to create a supportive environment for affected families.

As a part of the commemorative event attended by dignitaries, faculty, staff, and students, a slideshow prepared by the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR), highlighting the role of occupational therapists in autism management, was displayed throughout the day.

Additionally, various departments contributed information, education, and communication materials to enhance public understanding of autism and its management.

Speakers underscored the significance of early diagnosis, timely intervention, and the necessity of inclusive healthcare services.

The event saw the dean (academics), principals of the Dental College and College of Nursing, heads of departments (HODs), faculty members, nursing officials, staff, and students in attendance.

Meanwhile, as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada initiative, a social service activity was conducted on the second day in the presence of Prof N Sanjib Singh, medical superintendent RIMS Hospital.

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the 86 Bn CRPF, Lamphelpat, led by commandant Saurabh Kumar Chaudhary, along with second-in-command Ravinder Kumar, deputy commandant Kiyam Rajiv, and assistant commandants Ajeet Ram and Rajender Singh.
