Women sensitised on workplace harassment

Imphal, July 18 2025:
Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with the Centre for Women and Girls, organised a one-day sensitisation programme on the "Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibitiori and Redressal) Act, 2013" at the conference hall of the Tengnoupal DC Office on Friday.
The programme aimed at raising awareness about women's rights in professional settings and promote safer and more inclusive working environments, focused on the roles and responsibilities of th& Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) and Local Complaint Committee (LCC), which are central to the effective implementation of the 2013 Act, which envisions safe, secure and dignified work environment for all women, irrespective of their employment status.
In her address, MSCW chairperson Th Tiningpham Monsang said that awareness is crucial for both men and women in addressing workplace harassment, while underlining that the Act serves to ensure gender equality .by guaranteeing safety and dignity at work.
Pointing out that perpetra tors of sexual harassment can include both men and women, the chairperson underscored the need for sensitisation among all employees and strengthening knowledge of women's rights through such programmes for empowerment and equality.
Speaking as the resource person, Centre for Women and Girls executive director Hechin Haokip provided detailed explanations on the procedural framework under the Act and elaborated on the duties of ICC and LCC.
She stressed that proper functioning of these committees holds the key to the law's success on the ground.
Participants at the programme, which included government officials, local leaders and representatives from various organisations, collectively called for strict implementation of the Act.
They also demanded continued efforts in education and awareness to ensure workplace safety and respect for women.
MSCW members T Chuongsin Koireng, and Tengnoupal DC Saurabh Yadav also attended the programme as presidium members.
Following the main session, an interactive meeting was held between District Level Officers (DLOs) and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of the district.
The officials held discussions on the various issues and challenges currently faced by IDPs in Tengnoupal.
