State Museum organises sculpture workshop

The 10-day sculpture workshop organised by Manipur State Museum, under Department of Art and Culture, concluded at the Museum's auditorium, here, on Sunday.
The valedictory function was attended by Art and Culture special commissioner M Joy Singh, retired director Dr K Sobita and sculptor S Joychandra Sharma as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, M Joy reflected on the importance of showcasing artefacts created by the artists who participated in the workshop.
He noted that these works manifest the rich culture and traditions of Manipur, as well as the everyday items used by the indigenous people.
He stressed that it is essential for the younger generation to understand and appreciate these cultural artefacts, as only then can the true purpose and objectives of the workshop be achieved.
He also appealed to the artists to provide narrative descriptions of their respective creations so that the public can clearly understand the significance of each piece when they are displayed in the museum.
Delivering the presidential speech, Dr Sobita stated that a museum is not only an educational institution but also a place where cultural heritage is preserved and protected.
She said Manipur State Museum was established in 1969.Dr Sobita further mentioned that there are currently 32 museums in the state, all playing vital roles in educating the masses.
She said that museums are not just cultural heritage sites but also serve as repositories that will endure for future generations.
An exhibition of sculptures created by the 15 artists participating in the workshop was also held as a part of the event followed by distribution of certificates to all the participating artists.
