One day consultative / sensitization programme on "Sustainable Farming" held at Kamjong

Kamjong, March 23 2025:
A one-day consultative cum sensitization programme on "Village Level Geo-economic Development through Sustainable Farming" was held on Saturday at the Ramrei Village Community Hall, Kamjong District.
The event was organized by Tribal Resource Centre (TRDC) in collaboration with Development for Rural People.
The event was moderated by Singmiyon, Village Secretary and former headman of Ramrei Ramthar Zimik led the invocation prayer for the Program officials and the participants.
Around 100 farmers including agriculturists, agronomists and experts on organic farming took part in the day long deliberation on sustainable farming.
The get together of farmers was marked by the presence of Yaruingam Ningshen, an entrepreneur-cum-agronomist.
He enlightened the farmers community to plant and grow crops testing the fertility and suitability of the soil.
He stated that the crops that the villagers cultivated on a large scale could be turned into cash crops to boost their earnings, income, economy and to be economically self-sufficient.
He further emphasizes the significance of organic farming on a large scale that will enhance and enrich the soil to improve soil structure and prevent soil erosion offering a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizer and pesticides and promote human health.
The event was also attended by Nutritionist, Dr Changmei Shadang and Political activist-tumed-entrepreneur, Ningreingam Kashung.
As part of the programme, high yielding seeds like roselie seeds and moringa seeds were also distributed to the farmers by the Tribal Resource Development Centre (TRDC) in collaboration with Development for Rural People (DRP) .
