Imphal, August 06 2025:
Federation of All Tribal Youth Clubs, Manipur (FATYCM) has submitted a representation to the Agriculture director, raising serious concerns over alleged unequal distribution/selection of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) - Per Drop More Crop scheme for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
In the memorandum submitted on Wednesday, FATYCM highlighted what it termed as a 'significant disparity' in the beneficiary allocation between the valley and hill districts.
According to the figures provided by the federation, the valley districts received a disproportionate share of beneficiaries compared to their hill district counterpart's, despite the latter's larger geographical expanse and considerable agricultural potential.
The allocation breakdown cited in the representation revealed that while Imphal East received 500 beneficiaries, Imphal West 276, Thoubal 115, Bishnupur 145, and Kakching 91, the hill districts were allotted drastically fewer with only three from Tamenglong figuring among the beneficiaries, two from Noney, Senapati 10, Churachandpur two, Ukhrul and Kamjong 35 each, and Chandel 61 beneficiaries.
FATYCM labelled the current allocation as 'unfair and unjust', pointing out that the hill regions, with their rugged terrain and limited access to irrigation resources, are in greater need of state support.
The Federation contended that the current allocation undermines the prospects for agricultural development in the hills and further widens the economic gap between the hill and valley areas.
Calling for an urgent reassessment of the criteria used in the allocation process, it urged the Agriculture Department to adopt a more equitable and region-sensitive approach.
"Ensuring fair distribution of scheme benefits will empower hill district farmers, promote sustainable agriculture, and bridge the developmental divide between the hills and the valley," the representation stated.
FATYCM expressed hope of prompt and favourable action and reiterated its commitment to working with the government to foster an inclusive and prosperous agricultural sector in Manipur.
