Imphal, March 25 2025:
Construction of border fencing Moreh sector of the Indo-Myanmar border commenced from Tuesday, with the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) as the implementing agency.
The fence work began near border pillar 77, with senior officials, including the DC and SP of Tamenglong district, along with senior officers from Assam Rifles and BRTF, inspecting and assessing the work.
The development follows the recent decision of the Centre to fence the entire 1,643 km-long India-Myanmar border to prevent illegal immigration and enhance border security.
The move came amid rising concerns over the influx of illegal immigrants and the smuggling of contraband goods.
However, communities that share same or common ethnic ties with those across the border have been opposing border fencing and scrapping of Free Movement Regime.
