Colleges take steps toward SUP-free campuses

A campaign on "Banning the Use of Single Use Plastic on the College Campus" was jointly organised by Thoubal College and its NSS units, IQAC and Green Audit Committee in association with the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change at Thoubal College multipurpose hall on Monday.
The event was attended by Thoubal College principal professor M Bina Devi and Thoubal College Teachers' Association president N Ibobi as chief guest and president respectively.
As part of the event, the chief guest led a pledge to refrain from using single-use plastics (SUPs), raise awareness about their harmful effects and work towards making the locality, state, nation and planet free from plastic.
The chief guest also officially declared the Thoubal College campus as a single-use plastic-free zone.
Following the pledge, teachers and students participated in collecting plastic waste from in and around the college campus.
Meanwhile, an enforcement drive to curb the use of single-use plastics was jointly conducted by the Manipur Pollution Control Board, Kakching district administration, Kakching police and the Kakching Municipal Council at Kakching Bazar on Monday.
Additionally, an awareness drive on creating a plastic-free zone and banning single-use plastics on college campuses was organised as part of World Soil Day by the Environmental Club, IQAC, and NSS Units of YK College on Monday.
The event was attended by College principal professor Kh Jugindro and Physics Department head associate professor O Binoykumar as chief guest and president respectively.
Participants also took a pledge to make YK College a plastic-free zone.
