TPC former staffer Damaru passes IIS test

Former sub editor of The People's Chronicle (TPC) Keisham Damaru Singh has figured among the selected list of the Indian Information Service (IIS) senior grade recruitment examination of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
When result of the examination was declared Tuesday, Damaru figured in 5th rank of the selected list.
Interview for the recruitment examination was conducted from June 30 to July 4 to fill up 20 vacant seats.
The seats include 12 unreserved, two seats for OBC, three seats for SC, two seats for ST category and one seat for economically weaker section.
Keisham Damaru Singh is currently assistant-editor at the Indian Bureau of Mines, Nagpur.
Damaru scored a total of 65 marks in the personal interview round conducted by UPSC.
An alumnus of Manipur University and the University of Delhi, Damaru is the son of Keisham Ibohal Singh and Sipra Rani Das of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mamang, Ayangpalli Road in Imphal East district.
He completed his BSc (Hons) in Botany from the University of Delhi in 2015 before pursuing Master's degree in Mass Communication from Manipur University, which he completed in 2019.Following his academic pursuits, he began his journalism career as a sub-editor at The People's Chronicle, an Imphal-based English daily, where he worked for over three years.
He later joined St Joseph's University, Nagaland, as an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, serving there for more than two years.
In 2023, Damaru topped the UPSC recruitment for the post of Assistant Editor in the Indian Bureau of Mines, Ministry of Mines.
He joined the service in October 2023 and is presently posted at the IBM Headquarters in Nagpur.
The Indian Information Service; to which he has now been selected, is a central civil service responsible for managing the government's media and public communication.
Officers of the IIS serve as media managers for various ministries and departments and play a vital role in disseminating government policies and programmes to the public.
They also collect public feedback that helps in shaping government policy and ensuring responsive governance.
