Licypriya launches scholarship prog for displaced students

Climate and environmental activist Licypriya Kangujam has announced the launch of Licypriya Fellowship, a full scholarship programme aimed at supporting deserving internally displaced students staying in various relief camps in the state to pursue higher education after 10+2.The scholarship will cover range of professional courses in medical, allied health, and engineering fields.
In a statement, Licipriya informed that the scholarship will also be extended to other financially disadvantaged but meritorious students across the region.
Under this initiative, selected students will enjoy cent per cent tuition and admission fees waiver for the entire duration of the chosen course.
However, students will be required to cover their hostel mess fees and personal expenses.
Courses covered under the fellowship included MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, GNM, ANM, Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT), Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Diploma in Pharmacy (DPharm), BSc Optometry, BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology, Operation Theatre Technology, Anaesthesia Technology, and Emergency Medicine Technology, and Engineering, among others.
These programmes will be offered at the Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital, with campuses located in Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, and Tirupati City.
Interested students are invited to attend direct admission sessions on July 13 and 14 at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, starting at 10 AM, or contact Licypriya directly through her official social media handles, the release added.
Licypriya further stated that non-IDP students will also benefit from the initiative, with scholarships covering 50 per cent of tuition and admission fees for financially weak families, and 25 per cent for students from non-BPL families.
These amounts will be covered by Licypriya Foundation.
Currently, three IDP students from Manipur - one from Moirangpurel and two from the Moirang relief camp - are pursuing various medical courses at Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital under the fellowship.
Over 300 students from Northeast India have graduated from the institution so far.
Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital is the first private medical college in Eastern India and one of the largest educational groups in the region.
In addition to higher education support, Licypriya is also providing free education to dozens of displaced children from Manipur.
She plans to launch the first international curriculum school in the region later this year.
This pioneering institution will focus on early childhood education for children affected by armed conflict, displacement, and humanitarian crisis, utilising a global curriculum, trauma-informed teaching methods, and a peace-centred learning environment.
The initiative is expected to be the first of its kind in India and Asia, the release added.
