Imphal, April 02 2025:
Residents of Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai have imposed restrictions on unauthorised excavation of earth from the hills between Haraorou and Yumnam Khunou by.
Keystone Company, allegedly for the construction of the Imphal Ring Road.
Around 20 trucks belonging to Keystone Company, which were transporting the excavated earth, have been advised to cease further extraction from the area.
Addressing media persons at Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai on Wednesday, Yaipha Lamjing Lup secretary Tonjam Somorjit stated that the Saikul road, which had been left unrepaired for a long time, had its potholes mended following agitations by the people of Khundrakpam.
Despite this, trucks belonging to Keystone Company have been transporting excavated earth and using the road for the past few months.
When asked whether the company had received government approval for the excavation, its supervisor was unable to produce any relevant documents.
Consequently, the extraction of earth from the hills between Haraorou and Yumnam Khunou has been banned with immediate effect, announced the secretary.
He further expressed disappointment that while fines are imposed on locals when they extract earth for community activities, the government has failed to take any action against those engaging in illegal excavation on a larger scale.
A memorandum regarding this issue will also be submitted to the Governor, he said.
