Imphal, April 26 2025: A sit-in protest was held today at Khurai Lamlong Keithel, demanding justice for RK Ongbi Nongthombam Lakhibai alias Tomba, whose mysterious death on April 21 has sparked outrage.

The protesters alleged that Lakhibai was murdered by her husband RK Chaoba, a resident of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda Leikai, and demanded that he face capital punishment.

Speaking to the media, L Kananbala, convenor of the JAC formed, said that they have submitted a memorandum to the authorities but no action has been taken yet regarding the alleged murder.

She also alleged that Lakhibai was murdered by her husband while under the influence of intoxicants, and claimed this incident poses a challenge to the entire women's community.

Noting the high incidence of crimes against women in Manipur, she expressed concern that the rate of legal action remains alarmingly low.

She questioned why RK Chaoba couldn't have sent Lakhibai to her natal home at Khurai Puthiba Leikai if he no longer wanted to be with her, instead of resorting to murder.

Condemning the killing, she urged the authorities to award capital punishment to RK Chaoba.

She said that they will launch a series of agitations until their demand is entertained.
