Bishnupur, July 22 2025:
Deputy commissioner Pooja Elangbam continued her outreach efforts by visiting the relief camp set up at Takmu Water Sports Complex, Laisoi, on Tuesday.
She was accompanied by members of the ETA Foundation - a platform that creates opportunities and safe spaces for women to share views and try new ideas.
During her visit, DC Pooja interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) and addressed their concerns.
She highlighted various welfare initiatives undertaken by the government for the benefit of IDPs, with a particular focus on recent developments regarding resettlement and rehabilitation.
In her address, the deputy commissioner urged the IDPs to make full use of welfare schemes available across key sectors such as education and health.
She specifically mentioned Mission Vatsalya, which provides monthly financial support to vulnerable students up to the age of 18 .
The DC also emphasised the importance of availing health benefits under schemes such as Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) and Prad-han Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) .
For medical needs not covered under these schemes, she mentioned that assistance would be provided through the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) following proper verification by authorities concerned.
The DC further stressed the importance of registering on the IDP Management Portal, noting that the portal serves as a gateway to all government welfare schemes.
She warned that failure to complete registration by the end of July would result in the portal being frozen, potentially blocking access to essential benefits.
Accurate and complete information during registration was strongly advised to avoid future issues.
The camp residents expressed their gratitude to the deputy commissioner for her visit.
They raised several demands, particularly for support in education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities.
Many also conveyed a strong desire to return to their native homes.
Meanwhile, the residents of Laisoi expressed their interest in transforming the area into a tourist destination, citing its natural beauty, scenic landscape, and good connectivity.
With only 45 households, they emphasised the village's significant potential for sustainable tourism development.
The deputy commissioner assured continued government support to the IDPs at the Laisoi relief camp as well as to the residents of Laisoi.
