Imphal, April 16 2025:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a spell of unstable weather across Manipur and its neighbouring states, with thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall likely over the next several days due to multiple upper air disturbances.
According to the IMD bulletin issued Wednesday, an upper air cyclonic circulation over east Assam extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, along with troughs at various tropospheric levels from Sikkim to north Odisha, will influence the weather patterns in the region.
Under the combined impact of these systems, Manipur, along with Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura, is expected to experience scattered to fairly wide spread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching up to 50 kmph over the next five days.
On April 17 and 18, isolated places across the region, including Manipur, are likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.
On April 19 and 20, thunderstorm activity is expected to continue at isolated places, with lightning as a common feature.
The IMD has also warned of possible thunder squalls with winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph on April 18 .
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya on April 21 and 22, with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity predicted over east and northeast India from April 23 to 25 .
