Imphal, July 04 2025:
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Friday assured civil society organisations (CSOs) of Tamenglong of positive developments in the district.

According to a release issued by the joint CSOs, the delegation highlighted several grievances and hardships faced by the people of Tamenglong, particularly concerning the National Food Security Act (NFSA) backlog, staff shortages at the District Hospital, incomplete construction of the General Nurse Midwifery (GNM) Institute, and delays in Tamenglong 132/33kV substation project under the North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP), awarded to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL).
The CSOs said that there has been a two-month NFSA backlog for April and May in Tamenglong, Tousem and Tamei blocks, while Tamei has an additional backlog for August 2024 .
They noted that such delays were unfair to the economically disadvantaged population of the district.

During the meeting, the Governor assured that the under-staff issue would be addressed'in the coming days.
The delegation also discussed several other key issues with the Governor, including the resumption of Manipur State Transport (MST) bus service from Imphal to Tamenglong, passenger service of the NF Railway from Khongsang to Guwahati, the completion of Rani Gaidinliu Memorial Stadium at Luangkao, her native village, and a green signal for organising the Orange Festival.
The joint CSOs also issued an ultimatum, demanding that their concerns be addressed by July 10.Failing to do so, they warned of launching a district-wide public agitation, including peaceful demonstrations and road blockades, "in defence of our people's constitutional right to health and dignity under Article 21" .
