Imphal, April 02 2025:
National People's Party (NPP), Manipur president Yumnam Joykumar has claimed that party's clear-cut decision on the violence in Manipur since May 3, 2023 was intimated to Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) and also responded fittingly to KIM's press statement in the form of a rejoinder.
The matter, however, was not disclosed to the media as people would consider party's decision as taking political mileage, Joykumar told media persons on Wednesday.
He claimed that NPP intimated party's decision on the violence in a rejoinder to a press statement issued by KIM in the year 2024 during which he was the national vice-president.
Recounting NPP's decision, the former deputy chief minister said KIM was informed that no ST status was given to the Meetei/Meitei community by an order of the High Court of Manipur and it (court) is not the authority to grant ST status.
Even the Supreme Court cannot grant ST status to any community as the decision on such matters is the prerogative of the Parliament.
Accordingly, the party informed KIM through the rejoinder that it was wrong step for the Kukis to torch Meetei villages in Kuki-dominated areas by organising a violent public rally accompanied by some persons wielding sophisticated firearms.
Torching Meetei villages by the Kukis extremely angered the Meetei community and the situation got worsened as the state government failed to control a serious law and order problem, Joykumar recalled.
He also recounted that Arambai Tenggol came out to fight armed Kukis after state government could not protect lives and properties of the Meeteis in the fringe areas.
Accordingly, scores of youth emerged to defend the state and protect people without fearing for their lives and dedication.
The KIM was also told through the rejoinder to send back CDF and PDF to their native villages in Myanmar.
The KIM was also told that their dream of controlling valley area by cutting off the roads in Moreh and Jiribam would not be realised at all as the Meeteis will fight till their last blood.
Through the rejoinder to KIM, the party also intimated the Kuki brethren to shun violence and come to the path of peace for mutual co-existence as in the past.
In the same manner, the party also appealed to the Meeteis to promote peace as no community would gain from the violence, Joykumar said reflecting on party's rejoinder to the KIM statement of 2024 .
