Imphal, June 29 2025:
The 11th Dr Thingnam Kishan Memorial Lecture was held on Saturday at Imphal Public Library, Uripok Sorbon Thingel, Imphal West, under the initiative of Dr Thingnam Kishan Foundation.
The annual event pays tribute to the life and legacy of the late Dr Thingnam Kishan while engaging the public in critical discourse on cultural and academic issues.
This year's memorial lecture was delivered by archaeologist Okram Kumar Singh on the theme "Archaeology as a Source of Understanding the Culture of Manipur".
In his address, Kumar emphasised the importance of archaeological research in reconstructing Manipur's historical narratives and deepening the understanding of the region's indigenous heritage.
He observed that material findings from the past serve as vital tools for interpreting cultural evolution and continuity.
The session was chaired by Manipur University's School of Humanities former dean Prof Soyam Lokendrajit.
The lecture was followed by reflections from two resource persons, DM College of Arts, Philosophy Department assistant professor Michael Singh Samjetsabam, and researcher and dancer Chabungbam Babina Devi, who offered thoughtful analyses and broadened the context of the discussion.
The programme began with floral tributes and the formal introduction of the memorial lecture.
An open discussion session invited audience engagement.
