Bishnupur DC meets farmers, visits girls' school

Bishnupur, July 18 2025:
Deputy commissioner Pooja Elangbam, on Friday visited several agricultural sites across the district, including Ngangkha Lawai, Naranseina, Phubala, and Thinungei, to engage directly with local farmers and address their concerns.
During the visit, farmers highlighted their inability to access and cultivate their fields due to security issues and urged the deputy commissioner to take necessary steps to ensure safe access to their fields, while emphasising that agriculture remains their primary source of livelihood.
The farmers also appealed for a proper water supply in their village.
DC Pooja Elangbam assured the farmers that the district administration is committed to supporting them and will raise their concerns with the relevant authorities to implement timely and effective solu tions.
She also briefed the farmers on measures already initiated by the district administration and listened to their grievances on the ground.
The farmers expressed their gratitude to the deputy commissioner for visiting their fields and for her direct engagement with them.
During the field visit, the deputy commissioner was accompanied by Bishnupur additional deputy commissioner T Opendro, along with officials from the district administration.
The deputy commissioner also visited Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidydlaya (KGBV), Moirang, accompanied by the zonal education officer (ZEO) of Bishnupur, A Gunamani, to assess the infrastructural and academic facilities of the girls' residential school.
During the inspection, Pooja Elangbam reviewed key aspects of the school, including classroom facilities, sanitation, drinking water, electricity, and dining-arrangements, besides interacting directly with the students and teachers to gain insights into the daily functioning and well-being of the pupils.
From their side, the students shared details about the food provided to them and highlighted the need for subject-specific teachers to strengthen academic support while the school faculty informed the deputy commissioner that KGBV Moirang currently accom modates 200 students from various districts across the state.
Notably, the school has maintained a 100 per cent pass rate in the Class X examinations over the past four years.
Commending this achievement, the deputy commissioner encouraged both students and staff to continue striving for excellence.
The school warden briefed the deputy commissioner on the operational status of essential facilities, such as water and electricity, along with other basic amenities.
Encouraging the students, Pooja Elangbam emphasised the importance of education and character development.
She urged them to work hard and participate actively in co-curricular activities, particularly sports, for holistic growth and good health.
During a discussion with the ZEO, the deputy commissioner explored the idea of organising student benefit camps, which could provide additional academic and personal development opportunities.
It may be noted that Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Moirang, is a residential school dedicated to the education of girls from underprivileged backgrounds.
The institution supports girls by facilitating their education from Class VI to X and aims to ensure a smooth academic transition from elementary to secondary education.
Currently, the school is operating temporarily in Moirang due to security concerns at its original location in Thamnapokpi.
