Imphal, April 16 2025:
Five clubs and Meira Paibis from Top Dusara area have submitted a memorandum to the Governor, seeking immediate intervention in the stalled road development project in their locality.
The road, developed under the Manipur Urban Road Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project (MUR-DAMIP) and funded by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), is reportedly the sole access route to the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (PM SHRI) at Yaralpat.
In the memorandum, the signatories stated that the road project - intended to improve urban connectivity and infrastructure in Imphal and surrounding areas - has been abruptly halted due to alleged interference by a local politician.
The road, they emphasised, is crucial for daily commuters, farmers, local businesses, and especially students attending the centrally sponsored PM SHRI school, which was established under the Prime Minister's flagship scheme for quality education.
The organisations warned that the delay has rendered the road nearly impassable, leading to frequent accidents, vehicle damage, dust pollution, and significant disruption to school-going children and local residents.
They argued that continued obstruction undermines both public interest and the objectives of national development initiatives supported by international agencies.
They requested the Governor to direct the district administration and law enforcement agencies to prevent any unlawful obstruction and to ensure the immediate resumption of construction.
They also urged that the implementing agency, Keystone Infra Pvt Ltd, along with the Public Works Department, be instructed to complete the road before the onset of the rainy season.
The memorandum was jointly signed by functionaries of Eastern Sporting Association, Oriental Pioneer Association,.
Social Athletic Club, Youth Development Club, and Nehru Memorial Club, who collectively expressed hope that the Governor's intervention would help restore public confidence and ensure timely completion of the much-needed infrastructure.
