Imphal, January 12 2023:
With support from British War historians, Imphal Peace Museum launched 'Don't Touch' campaign to create awareness among the public regarding handling of unexploded WW2-era explosives periodically found in different parts of the state, at the museum at Nambol Maibam in Bishnupur district on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, war researcher Yumnam Rajesh-war noted that many unexploded vintage bombs of WW2 era are occasionally found in different parts of the state.
Many of them could explode and cause collateral damage in case of improper handling.
As such, the campaign aims to create awareness among the public, especially in those areas where WW2 battles took place, on how way to handle such vintage bombs.
He also appealed to the public to inform nearest police station if they come across such bombs and stay away from them.
British war historian Christopher Johnson, who joined the launch event virtually, said that creating awareness on such issues is crucial.
In European countries, there are separate bomb disposal squad for WW2 era bombs in their armed forces.
He appreciated Imphal Peace Museum for the initiative.
