Kakching, June 04 2025:
The Kakching Municipal Council (KMC) in connection with World Environment Day, carried out a cleanliness drive along both sides of the National Highway 137-A in the Kakching district.
The campaign targeted plastic waste that had clogged the roadside drains, causing frequent blockages.
Naorem Shanjitkumar, Caretaker Chairperson of the KMC said the drive was part of a broader effort to raise awareness on the dangers of plastic pollution and to promote waste disposal practices among the public.
He stressed that while KMC already collects waste twice a week, many residents still choose to dump their waste into drains and water bodies, leading to unavoidable flooding during the rainy season.
He urged the public, shopkeepers and business establishments to make use of the waste collection service, warning that by the end of June, names of individuals or households not subscribing to the service will be made public.
He opined that if residents properly dispose off their waste through KMC's waste collection system, there will be no reason to dump trash in the drains.
"Clogged drains not only damage our environment but also cause man-made flooding that disrupts our daily lives," he added.
He further appealed to the public not to throw plastic bottles, bags or other waste into the drains to prevent flooding during the rainy season.
The cleanliness drive was also attended by Th Siddhartha Singh, Senior CEO, Councillors, Sanitary workers and staff of the KMC .
