Imphal, May 02 2025:
A free medical camp, organised by All Zeliangrong Medicos Union (AZMU) in collaboration with Baptist Men Society, Liangmai Baptist Church, Imphal, was held on Thursday and Friday at Konphung village, under Tamei Sub-Division in Tamenglong district.
During the mega health camp, 30 Zeliangrong doctors provided medical consultations and free medicines to over 1,000 people from remote villages, including Konphung, Magulong, Katang, Taipram, Lianglong, Takou, Elleng, Dikiuram Upper and Lower, and New Canaan Ramh - a border village in Nagaland.
In addition to general medical services, over 200 patients underwent ultrasound examinations, and minor surgical procedures were also performed.
The specialist doctors in general medicine, surgery, gynaecology, ENT, paediatrics, dermatology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and chest medicine rendered vital healthcare services to underserved populations with limited access to medical facilities.
Speaking to this correspondent, N Silubou, secretary of Konphung Village Authority, highlighted the pressing need for a Primary Health Centre in Konphung.
He appealed to the Manipur government to address the healthcare challenges faced by residents, particularly those living in the border areas of Nagaland and Manipur.
Silubou emphasised that over 10 villages rely on Konphung as a central access point for essential services, and the absence of a local health facility has caused significant hardship.
Konphung, a Liangmai Naga village located 18 km from the Tamei Sub-Divisional Headquarters, serves as a strategic tri-junction connecting Tamei and Tousem Sub-Divisions, as well as the road link to Nagaland.
The medical camp was attended Dr Azin Maringmei, advisor of AZMU; Dr Athui Gangmei, president of AZMU; and D Akhom, chairman of Baptist Men Society, Liangmai Baptist Church, Imphal, along with other officials of the organising bodies.
