Cultural forum holds 67th annual conference

Upholding and promoting one's own culture and traditions is essential for earning respect from other communities, stated Art and Culture special commissioner Mongjam Joy.
He was speaking as chief guest at the 67th Annual Conference cum Felicitation function of The Cultural Forum Manipur, held at the JN Manipur Dance Academy auditorium on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Joy said the Meetei community is fortunate to have inherited a rich legacy of culture, literature, and heritage from their fore-fathers.
He urged the present generation to safeguard and promote these treasures, emphasising that cultural preservation is key to gaining respect from others.
He lauded the Cultural Forum Manipur for its sustained contributions in the fields of art, culture, and literature over the past 67 years and encouraged the organisation to continue its efforts for the benefit of future generations.
The event commenced with offering of floral tributes to the photograph of the forum's founding secretary Rajkumar Mani.
Forum president Prof Koijam Shantibala presided over the function, while JN Manipur Dance Academy director Pukhrambam Bilash attended it as guest of honour.
Several prominent personalities were felicitated during the event, including senior members Yaiskul Khwairakpam, Soibam Nungchikpa (Gunindro) Meetei, Yengkhom Roma, and Binapani Thokchom; national award winners Haobam Saty-abati, Kshetrimayum Subadani, and Dr Waikhom Chingkheinganba; and the forum's newly inducted patron member Prof Thiyam Jekendra.
A literary forum was also held as part of the event to honour the contributions of RK Mani in Manipuri literature.
Prof Huirem Behari chaired the session.
SK Women's College assistant professor Dr Laishram Koireng presented a paper on "Life and Works of RK Mani Singh".
GP Women's College assistant professor Dr Konthoujam Bijala-ta presented a paper on "RK Mani Singh as a Fiction Writer", while Maharaj Bodhchandra College assistant professor Dr Konjengbam Maniketan Singh presented on "RK Mani Singh as a Translator" .
