Only 23 relief camps in district: IE DC

Imphal, December 26 2023:
Since the outbreak of violence on May 3, people displaced from Meetei villages in the peripheral valley areas took shelter at around 70 relief camps opened at different places in Imphal East district initially but there are only 23 relief camps now, stated DC Imphal East Khumanthem Diana.
Majority of the residents of relief camps opened in Imphal East district have moved to their respective homes and shifted to temporary pre-fabricated shelter homes constructed by the government, Diana said while attending farewell programme for residents who had been taking shelter in the relief camp at Multipurpose Rural Development Centre at Heingang Kontha Makha Leikai.
The camp residents had been taking shelter there since May 4 and camp was manned by Model Club, local people and Meira Paibi.
Addressing the displaced people, Diana said the residents will be shifted to pre-fabricated shelter homes constructed by the government from Wednesday and there will be only 22 relief camps in Imphal East district when the relief camp is closed.
Later, Diana distributed labour cards to 33 residents of the relief camp.
The farewell programme was also attended by CM office coordinator S Libel, SDO Heingang Jiten and Model Club president H Ibotomba.
Mention may be made that around 250 people displaced from Kangpokpi, Sapermeina, Dolaithabi and Pukhao had been taking shelter at the relief camp since May 4 .
