Imphal, December 26 2023:
Magulong Naga Students' Union (MNSU) along with Magulong Village Council demanded resumption of road construction connecting the village to Katang, which is a project under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) .
A joint release by the two organisations said that the road project which was started on March 13, 2019, and was set to be completed by September 12, 2020, is nowhere near completion due to which the villagers are facing lots of difficulties on a daily basis.
Stating that it is because of the lackadaisical attitude of the work agency, the two bodies warned that if the work is not resumed by January 2024, the contractors and work agency concerned will be held responsible for any untoward incidents that may occur.
This road plays a very important role and is the only lifeline of the village populace, said the release.
The two organisations said it had been a keen observer of what's happening around the village and noticed that the road is in a dilapidated and sorry state till today.
The road project, so far, has executed only four culverts out of 12, and two retaining walls out of eight earmarked.
Moreover, the road surface work executed so far is of sub-standard and deplorable quality making it feasible only for off-roaders.
The project requires constant monitoring by the work agency to ensure the quality of work and its completion on time, it said.
Citing the ground realities, the Magulong bodies expressed their dissatisfaction and anticipated immediate attention.
