COCOMI calls for fair fund disbursal

While recalling the statement of Union minister of state for agriculture & farmers' welfare Kailash Choudhary during the monsoon session about sanctioning Rs 209.45 crore for farmers of Manipur, Farmers' Wing of Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) urged authorities concerned for ensuring the funds benefit the farmers directly, reasonably and transparently.
In a release, Farmers' Wing convenor K Thoiba pointed out that people especially those directly affected by the ethnic violence, including farmers and labourers, are facing untold miseries due to the conflict that broke out since May 3.Several prime farm lands had to be left fallow due to the conflict and erratic monsoons.
Amid farmer organisations exerting pressure and appealing to the government and department concerned for extending help, union minister Kailash Choudhary during the recent monsoon session stated that Rs 209.45 crores has been sanctioned for the farmers of Manipur of which Rs 38.9 crore were for violence-affected paddy cultivation areas, Thoiba recounted while demanding release of funds meant for the affected areas at the earliest by considering the plight of the farmers.
Stressing the need for looking into the inconveniences faced by farmers and the working class seriously, he suggested that the government and authorities concerned take up necessary initiatives to mitigate suffering of the economically underprivileged section of the society.
