Central team reviews PMKSY projects in Bishnupur

A central team led by NHIDCL managing director Dr Krishan Kumar visited Bishnupur district on Monday to review the progress of projects under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), with a special focus on Extension, Renovation, and Modernisation (ERM) of the Loktak Lift Irrigation (LLI) Project.
During the visit, Dr Krishan, held a review meeting with Bishnupur deputy commissioner Pooja Elangbam, and officials including the state and district nodal officers of PMKSY (ERM - Loktak Project).
WRD additional chief engineer-I K Kiran Singh provided a detailed briefing on the ongoing works, especially the Loktak Lift Irrigation Project, which was approved in 2022 under PMKSY-AIBP by the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The central team assessed key components of the project including headworks, pumping infrastructure, and canal systems, and reviewed the overall progress made over the past five years.
Discussions also covered project timelines, bottlenecks, and measures required for timely completion.
The central team, which also included Central Ground Water Board, NER Scientist-D (HG) Dr SS Singh, and Central Water Commission, Aizawl executive engineer, NEID-II Nishant Kumar, visited several field sites such as Moirang Lovy Level Canal located at Thamnapokpi, Naranseina, Sunushiphai, and the LLI Pump House-I at Ningthoukhong.
During the visit, the team met with farmers and interacted with them.
Some of the farmers expressed gratitude for the adequate water supply in their area, which has enabled timely irrigation.
Dr Krishan Kumar also suggested the implementation of projects like the PM-KUSUM scheme (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan), which aims to ensure energy security for farmers through solar-powered irrigation solutions.
Senior officials including WRD superintending engineer (Irrigation Circle-II) Rohit Ahanthem, and executive engineer (Irrigation Maintenance Division-II) Tolerence Saka, along with other departmental staff, were also present during the visit.
