Body calls for meaningful support to martyred BSF's family

Members of United Progressive Association, AndrO Kendra visited the family of martyred BSF constable Deepak Chingakham at Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai on Sunday and extended financial assistance in honour of his sacrifice.
The association also called upon the government to extend 'meaningful' assistance to the bereaved family above the Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia announced.
Constable Deepak lyas killed earlier this month in shelling by Pakistani army in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the visit, association president Md Zakir Hussain said the death of Deepak is a great loss not only for the state but for the entire country.
He welcomed the Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia announced by the state government while emphasising the need for greater support to the bereaved family.
He highlighted the case of Indian Army trooper M Murali Naik of Andhra Pradesh, whose family was assured Rs 50 lakh, five acres of land, housing assistance and a job for one family member.
He urged both the state and central governments to provide a more befitting package for Deepak's family and to initiate steps to ensure that his sacrifice is remembered by the people forever.
The visiting team also observed a two-minute silence as a tribute to the fallen soldier.
