Govt urged to address flooded crops

Standing crops grown in approximately 4000 'pari' of Loushi Loukol situated between Kakching and Thoubal districts have been flooded and is in danger of getting damaged.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of inspection of the affected area by Kakching Zilla Parishad caretaker up-adhyaksha Md Nazimuddin, Irengband Gram Panchayat caretaker pradhan Md Badur Zaman, Pallel GP caretaker pradhan Md Mukimuddin and Sora Apunba Loumee Lup (SALL) president Md Najir Khan, among others on Thursday, Md Nazimuddin stated that Loushi Loukol was earlier a water body known as Loushi Pat.
After local villagers cut the hills at Loushi Ching and drained the water into Kha-rung Pat and it transformed into farmland.
However, at the juncture around 4000 'pari' of the said agriculture land which has been in use for 30 years has been inundated as the 10 km long Loushi Khongjao (canal) from NH 102 to Loushi Ching and Kharung Pat have filled up and the water from the field are not flowing in.
As the flooding is occurring when the crop is almost ready for harvesting, the villagers are apprehensive that the standing crop getting destroyed by excess water, he said.
Though farmers of Sora, Irengband, Hawairou, Mairenbam, Kakching, Tekcham and nearby areas with support of the local GPs are dredging Loushi canal using excavators and other means, the task is unlikely to bear fruit as since the canal is lengthy, he maintained.
Nazimuddin further sought the attention of the government and MLAs Mayanglambam Rameshwar, Dr Usham Deben and Paonam Brojen and local villagers to extend support in resolving the issue at the earliest, and prevent possible loss of paddy crops.
