Workshop calls for aiding working-age group

A day-long state level workshop was held at the mini conference hall of YK College, Wangjing, on Friday.
It was jointly organised by Internal Quality Assurance Cell and the Seminar Committee of YK College - under the aegis of Directorate of University and Higher Education-in connection with the World Population Day 2025.Organised under the theme "Benefits of Demographic Dividend Amidst High Population", the workshop was attended by Thoubal College principal professor A Nabachandra, YK College principal professor Kh Jugindro and Physics Department head O Binoykunar as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Delivering the keynote address, YK College Economics Department head N Tijendro stated that the workshop is aimed at better understanding of the demographic profiles of Manipur with the primary aim of bringing together key stakeholders to discuss and develop strategies that encourage youth participation and boost their economic growth, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to innovation and social development.
He also made a strong case for supporting the working-age population (15-64 years) in enhancing their economic potential.
"To achieve this, focus must be placed on improving health, education, skill development and job creation," he elaborated, while calling for collaboration among academic institutions, government agencies, NGOs and local businesses in creating pathways to empower and uplift the youth.
The workshop had two sessions with the first featuring DM University Statistics Department professor N Sharat deliberating on the topic "Benefits of Demographic Dividend Amidst High Population growth in India", while retired research officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs Dr N Manimohon Meetei covered the topic "Demographic Profiles of Manipur State" in the second session.
