Order issued for eviction drives on Apr 12, 19

Imphal, April 02 2025:
Imphal West deputy commissioner/district magistrate, Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh has issued order for all illegal and unauthorised structures along Waisel Maril, Naga Nullah, eastern bank of Nambul River from Keishampat to Keisham thong and Elangbam Leikai stretch of Nambul River to vacate by April 19, failing which the government would carry out removal and eviction of the said structures.
According to the order issued Wednesday, the proceedings of the Second Inter Departmental Coordination meeting on 'Cleanliness of Imphal City', held in the office chamber of commissioner cum secretary (Water Resources), on March 7 had directed the DC, Imphal West/Flood Zoning Authority to remove encroachers/unauthorised structures along the aforementioned locations.
The order continued that the unauthorised occupancy by construction of structures along the above channels/rivers have obstructed the natural flow of water and accelerated flooding in many localities/Leikai/villages and as such, needs to be evicted/removed on priority basis to prevent further flooding of the adjoining localities/villages on one hand, and protection of river banks on the other.
Meanwhile, SDOs concerned submitted reports informing that there were 50 unauthorised structures in Wangoi and 108 in Lamphel area.
Therefore, the DC directed all such illegal occupation and unauthorised structures along the rivers/channels to be vacated by the encroachers latest by April 19, failing which removal and eviction will be carried put by SDO Lamphel/SDO Wangoi/Magistrates/Line Departments without further notice.
Claims and objections, if any, may be submitted to the DC or the Sub Divisional Officer concerned within April 12 .
The order also informed that the cost of dismantling/removal of such structures shall be charged from such encroachers, wherever applicable.
The Water Resource Department shall make all the necessary arrangement for machineries and logistics in the event of eviction is done and the SP Imphal West will detail adequate well-armed police force, including women personnel, led by an officer not below the rank of SDPO, for providing security to the men and official machinery who will be involved in the eviction.
