Manipur crisis discussed at NFIW meet

The second day of the 22nd National Conference of National Federation of Indian Women held at Geeta Mukherjee Nagar, Kharagpur in West Bengal discussed the current crisis in Manipur and adopted a resolution to press the government for ending the ethnic conflict between the Meetei and Kukis.
The conference began from Friday.
During the discussion, All Manipur Nupi Marup president M Sakhi, who represented Manipur at the conference, highlighted the hardships being endured by displaced people in relief camps, especially women and children for the last seven months and how the situation is affecting their physical and mental health.
She told the gathering that the indigenous people of Manipur are living the lives of refugees in their own homeland.
Consequently, the conference resolved to press the government to end the conflict, rehabilitate the displaced people, and provide adequate rehabilitation and resettlement assistance through a special package.
Another state delegate Memsana also presented a report on the activities of All Manipur Nupi Marup in the last three years.
Earlier, on the first day of the conference on Friday, a rally was organised.
A booklet containing full report of challenges faced by women and children in the country and recommendations along with proposed activities of NFIW for the next three years, was also released.
