AR rescues man missing since Leithao execution

Imphal, December 09 2023:
Arnold, a resident of Kakching, who escaped the execution by Kuki militants in Leithao village area, Tengnoupal district, on December 4, has been rescued by a team of 8 Assam Rifles on Saturday.
Police source said that Arnold was part of the ill-fated team, who got captured by Kuki militants.
However, he escaped from their custody while the other 13 were killed by the militants .Since then, police have been tracing the whereabouts of the escaped man.
Fortunately, he was found by a team of 8 Assam Rifles while carrying out a search operation in the Indo-Myanmar border area in Kamjong district on Saturday.
He would be transported to Imphal by a chopper and handed over to police on Sunday.
Mention may be made that the 13 youths were found executed on December 4 morning near Leithao village.
Joint teams of Tengnoupal district police and Assam Rifles deployed in the nearby areas led by SP Tengnoupal and OC of Tengnoupal police station recovered the body and brought to JNIMS where post mortem examinations were conducted.
Later, all the bodies were buried at Andro Torongthel with huge public participation.
Condemning the execution as an extreme form of crime against humanity, family members said that bruises on their bodies show that they were captured alive and tortured severely before execution.
They appealed to the government to investigate the incident thoroughly and bring to justice the perpetrators.
Different organisations have also been demanding swift action to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
