MPCC petitions MPs to air crisis in Parliament

A delegation of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) led by its vice-president Hareshwar Goshwami, which also included associate professor M Ramananda of Kirori Mal College, Delhi University and assistant professor Kh Romesh of JNU, Delhi submitted memorandum to the three MPs from the state - Dr RK Ranjan, Dr Lorho S Pfoze, and Leishemba Sanajaoba.
The team also had a meeting with union minister of state for education and external affairs RK Ranjan, urging him to address the current crisis in the state during the ongoing winter session of the parliament.
The discussion, lasting about an hour, had the minister expressing his willingness to assist in finding a solution to the difficult situation but confessed his limitations as a minister of state in raising matters in the Parliament, though he can give answers.
Outer MP Lorho S Pfoze also conveyed his commitment to bringing peace, and expressed readiness to contribute towards resolving the crisis.
While the team could not personally meet Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, a memorandum highlighting the burning issues of Manipur with an appeal to raise the matter in the ongoing parliament session was handed over to a family member of the MP.
The memorandum, submitted by MPCC, sought attention of the Parliament to address the critical situation in Manipur.
It highlighted the outbreak of the violence on May 3 first at Kangvai in Churachandpur district, following a Tribal Solidarity March organised by All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM).
The aftermath has resulted in continuous turmoil, displacing over 60,000 people and forcing them to seek shelter in relief camps, with more than 200 casualties or missing persons, and the looting of approximately 6,000 weapons from police posts and battalions.
In the memorandum, MPCC stressed the immediate need for rehabilitation and restoration of all the displaced people at their respective homes with adequate security and prompt compensation, and taking up necessary measures for the restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
The Congress party urged the MPs to champion these propositions during the ongoing Parliament Session, recognising the severe consequences of the crisis on the development and well-being of
the people in Manipur.
