Imphal, September 07 2023:
Moirang Kendra Civil Defence (MKCD) Co-ordinating Committee has extended its support to the public curfew being called by Thoubal and Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) on September 8-9 against the failure of the government to resolve the prevailing crisis in the state.
In a release, MKCD Co-ordinating Committee convener I Ranjit Singh appealed to all organisations in Moirang assembly constituency to support the public curfew.
The Committee also warned that it will launch a counter blockade in Moirang AC if the economic blocked imposed by Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) is not withdrawn within five days, while adding that movement of security forces will not be allowed in the constituency during the counter blockade.
It also condemns the strong action of Assam Rifles and Rapid Action Force against the women during the protest led by Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) to remove the barricades till Kangvai on Wednesday.
The Committee further cautioned that if the centre and state governments do not flush out the Kuki militants freely moving at Thangjing hill range and firing bombs and bullets on daily basis towards Kangvai, Phougakchao Ikhai till Thinungai at the earliest and restore peace then they are ready to resort to intense form of agitations with public support.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Lifters' & Movers Welfare Association (AMLMWA) has urged for withdrawal of the public curfew being called by TAKDAL considering the hardships faced by daily wage earners due to the present situation in the state.
In a release, AMLMWA requested CSOs to reconsider the two-day long public curfew as the daily wage earners who have been already suffering from the effects of Covid-19 pandemic are now in more dire situation caused by the prevailing crisis.
