Senapati, September 07 2023:
United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned the physical assault on Zuina Hotngambou of Rianglong village, Tamei sub-division, Tamenglong district, the former chair man of Liangmei Naga community.
In a statement released by its information & publicity secretary James Hau, UNC expressed its deep dismay at the brutal and savagery attack that occurred on September 5 around 7:30 am .
The incident took place at Chalwa along the IT road and was perpetrated by cadres of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA), a group currently under Suspension of Operations (SoO,) it stated.
The recurring acts of violence and extortion targeting Naga villagers while traveling and transporting goods along the IT road are profoundly disturbing.
UNC strongly denounces these acts of intimidation and imposition on the Naga community.
It is a matter of grave concern, and the Naga people can no longer tolerate such provocative and unwarranted activities, whether carried out by armed Kuki militants or civilians, the statement said.
Calling for an immediate cessation of such wanton and reckless confrontations to prevent further misunderstandings and potential escalation, UNC emphasised that justice must be swiftly served to the victim, and the perpetrators should not evade accountability.
It also urged relevant authorities and community leaders to take necessary actions to facilitate an amicable resolution to the issue and ensure prompt justice for the victim.
This, it states, is essential for the well-being of all communities involved.
